SEOUL, Mar. 31 (Yonhap) – K-pop boy group KINGDOM’s fourth mini album “History Of Kingdom: Part IV. Dann,” which was released on Mar. 31, has something special. Even though it is familiar to find one of the members to play the “main character” of each album, the concept of Hanbok with our traditional instruments is very unique.
The album's introduction song "Intro: Palace," "Illusion," which contains a retro mood, and the music of Korea crossover pop ballad song “Dansimga,” which borrows lyrics of the traditional Korean folk song “Birds, birds, blue birds(translated),” show unique colors of the traditional Korean songs.
The title song "Ascension(translated)" is also a song of dance pop genre that combines the mood of the music of Korea, showing a great harmony of traditional Korean music and classy K-pop. The sound of traditional musical instruments, such as haegeum, daegeum, gayageum, and piri, increased the perfection of the song with a sad yet frosty tone.
KINGDOM said during an interview with Yonhap News Agency, "We had no idea that Hanbok was this beautiful," adding, "We want to promote the beauty of Korea's Hanbok and our culture throughout the world.”
Member Dann, who played the main lead of the album, said, "There is no other team that reinterprets the culture of not only Korea but countries from all over the world into K-pop and shows them on the stage in a form of movies," adding, "I want to make ourselves known as soon as possible and show our presence in the music scene."
Even though the members did not have many opportunities to experience the music of Korea, they felt a strange familiarity while recording the song as it is our traditional Korean music. The fact that all seven members are Koreans without any foreign members is also a unique feature of the group since it is hard to find one recently.
Louis said, "Since all members are Korean, I thought we could perform our music most easily," adding, "I think the work of our album turned out very well this time.”
KINGDOM, which debuted with its first mini album in February, 2021, has already performed in the music scene for a year. It is no longer possible for the group to be labeled as a rookie. The members were fully prepared for the release of their new album.
Dann said, "Since we are in our second year, I couldn't give any more excuse of ‘We are still rookies,’" adding, "I thought we should do better, and I kept repeating myself that I was confident while filming the music video."
Louis said, "I think the time has passed so fast as everything seems new since my debut in 2021,” adding, "Even though we have released 4 albums in a year, everything went smoothly and every moment gave us excitements. The moments of achieving what we planned were so meaningful and precious.”
Chi-woo introduced, "Actually, people might not be aware of our real personalities but when we come down from the stage, we are all naughty," adding, "We also have the mood of an 'elementary school student' apart from our serious concept of kings, so I think our fans will like it.”
