LOS ANGELES, April 20 (Yonhap) -- McDonald's, one of the largest fast food companies worldwide, will join hands with global superstar BTS to launch the "BTS MEAL" in 49 countries on six continents.

McDonald's announced a global promotion plan for the "BTS MEAL" on the 19th (KST), according to Reuters.

McDonald's plans to introduce the "BTS MEAL" menus in 11 countries, including the U.S., next month and then expand its sales to 49 different countries in six continents.

The "BTS MEAL" will be sold as a limited edition from May 26th to June 20th.

The "BTS MEAL" contains nine to ten pieces of chicken McNuggets, french fries, and coke as well as two dipping sauces--sweet chilli and cajun flavors--inspired by McDonald's South Korea recipes.

Some foreign media viewed McDonald's collaboration with K-pop dynamo BTS as a way to boost global sales, which had been sluggish due to the corona virus pandemic.

Last year, McDonald's successfully launched a celebrity set menu featuring artists Travis Scott and J Balvin, in the U.S. market.

According to a U.S. economic media out, CNBC, "McDonald's is working with BTS, a world-renowned power group and K-pop megastar." "This is the first time McDonalds promoted celebrity menus in more than one market."

CNBC predicted that BTS's growing global fandom will contribute greatly to McDonald's sales, saying that the "BTS MEAL" can surpass the success of McDonalds's previous celebrity menus.

McDonald's stated, "We're glad that customers can get closer to BTS through our menus."

"The band has great memories with McDonald’s," said Big Hit Music, the record label of BTS, in a statement. "We’re excited about this collaboration and can’t wait to share the 'BTS Meal' with the world."
