SEOUL, Feb. 9(Yonhap) -- In the year of the Black Tiger in 2022, there is a song that defeated competitive singers, such as Lim Young-woong, IVE, and aespa, on music platforms and ranked high on the chart. It is "Horangsuwolga" sung by the singer Tophyun.

"Horangsuwolga,” which was released on Jan. 15, is a song that depicts the story of sorrowful love that has not come true with the oriental melody added to it. The song began to climb up the chart and ranked No. 2 on the Melon daily chart this month, according to the music industry on Wednesday.

Tophyun, who sang "Horangsuwolga," is a singer whose name is not familiar to the public. After his debut with the single “Too Late” last year, he released the song “Sorry” and has mainly been active on YouTube.

The director of this song is CEO Kim Kyo-sik, who leads the famous music promotion agency HNS HQ. Tophyun's "Horangsuwolga" is actually a cover of the soundtrack "Horangpungryuga" for the 2015 Light Novel “Tiger My Love.”

CEO Kim said, "We decided to cover "Horangpungryuga” in March and April last year and went out to look for the original author," adding, "The relationship in terms of copyright was not clear, so we even asked the copyright collective to find the composer Sangnoksu.”

Unlike the original song, which feels like a dance song with the fast tempo, Kim paid attention to the sad ballad.

He produced "Horangsuwolga," sung by the female solo artist UJoo(real name Ham UJoo) in June, 2021, before Tophyun released the song. UJoo's version of “Horangsuwolga” features oriental melodies with the sounds of traditional instruments.

Since then, Kim produced a different version for Tophyun, where he removed the oriental melodies from the UJoo's version and emphasized the ballad mood.

The interests towards the setting of the song’s popularity has increased as the Tophyun’s version of “Horangsuwolga” climbed up the chart.

CEO Kim explained, "Horangsuwolga has already received great attention on YouTube and TikTok since last year,” adding, "I wondered why no one was releasing such a good song, so I decided to get permission from the composer and cover the song.”

Kim explained that he covered the song that has already gone viral on YouTube and officially released the song into an album.

In fact, the cover of "Horangsuwolga" by the YouTuber “BED TAKER” was uploaded in June, 2019, before UJoo and Tophyun released the song and exceeded 19 million views, while the cover video sung by the singer Ahn Ye-eun at the concert in December, 2019, nearly achieved 1.4 million views.

The song, which gained popularity on YouTube and TikTok, climbed up the music chart just in time for the year of the Black Tiger. The YouTube video of "Horangsuwolga" sung by Tophyun with the YouTube creator "Zamgolbers" has surpassed 2.7 million views.

CEO Kim said, "We released a song in collaboration with UJoo and Tophyun only for the ‘Horangsuwolga’ project," adding, "We will also consider producing songs of crossover genres, such as the music of Korea and operatic pop if we have a chance."
