SEOUL, Sept. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean broadcaster MBC TV announced during an online press conference that its new entertainment program "The Wild Idol" will begin to air at 8:10 p.m. on Friday.
"The Wild Idol," produced by star TV producer Yeo Woon-hyuk, who is known for creating "Knowing Bros" and "Golden Fishery," is an audition program which selects idol members, however unlike existing programs, it will take place in the wild and depict a real "survival" competition.
"The biggest difference of our program is the sense of seeing everything raw," producer Yeo said while expressing his confidence.
Singer Kim Jong-kook (45), who was selected as the host, said, "Although there are many audition program, since our show has such a distinct color, I'm looking forward it."
"When I heard the title of the program, I instantly understood why I was cast as the host," Kim added. "I knew I had a hard time when I made my debut, but (looking at the participants) I knew it wasn't as bad as this," the singer said laughing.
Producer Han Young-rong, who is in charge of directing, said, "If a 'wild idol' was a person, it would be Kim Jong-kook. He is the perfect host for this program."
"The basic concept is to select idols with physical strength and skills, producer Han said. "Rather than selecting young and soft looking singers, we wanted to make rough-looking idols."
In addition to Kim Jong-kook, "The Wild Idol" will feature Cha Tae-hyun, Lee Hyun-yi, Lee Sun-bin, Kim Sung-kyu, and Brave Girls' Yoo Jung as panels.
