SEOUL, March 21 (Yonhap) -- The popularity of drama script books has grown in bookstores. Sales have more than doubled in a year, and new books are waiting for publication one after another.

The sales of books in the drama and scenario fields from January 1 to 14 this year increased 2.7 times compared to the same period last year, according to Kyobo Book Centre, Monday.

The most sold drama script book this year was “Our Beloved Summer.” The series “The King’s Affection” and “Would You Like a Cup of Coffee?” also reached the top of sales.

Since the 2020 movie “Parasite,” script books have slowed down but are gaining attention once again from this year. 40 to 60 books in this field have been published annually, but the number increased to 82 last year and 17 have been released so far this year.

Script book readers were 74.1 percent women, which was higher than that of men (25.9 percent). By age group, 36.2 percent were in their 20s, followed by those in their 30s (28.5 percent) and those in their 40s (18.7 percent).

With the rising popularity of script books, a series of works that have been transferred from ended drama scripts are being published now. The script book of "My Mister," which aired in 2018, topped the bestseller list in the art field only with pre-orders before publication. Script collections of dramas “Thirty-Nine,” “Through the Darkness,” “Work Later, Drink Now,” “The Red Sleeve,” “Hellbound,” and “In Our Prime” will also be published soon.

An official from the Kyobo Book Centre said, "There have often been cases where the original novels or webtoons of dramas have become bestsellers, but nowadays people seem to read famous lines and think of the scenes from the script books as fans of the drama.”
