SEOUL, October 21 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on October 20 that two ultra-high-definition documentaries financially supported by them have signed a contract with a European production and distribution company at "MIPCOM," the world's largest broadcasting content market.

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, SBS, the producer of the "Guardian of Tundra," has signed a purchase intention contract with a European production and distribution company "OTF" for re-production and overseas distribution.

This piece is a documentary featuring the beautiful nature of the Siberian tundra in 4K ultra-high definition, and actor Ko Hyun-jung was in charge of the narration. It was evaluated as a work that reminded of environmental problems through the reality facing future generations living in Tundra.

"Guardian of Tundra" will be distributed to major broadcasters and online streaming platform around the world such as BBC, Discovery and Netflix after the reproduction of the original film by the European production company.

In addition, the documentary "The Generation of Library," which was also supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2019, also signed an overseas distribution contract with TVF International, a British distributor.

It is a documentary that vividly captures the great libraries of seven countries, including the Vatican Library and Secret Library, in 4K ultra-high definition, and received the Best Documentary Award at the New York International Film Festival last year.

MIPCOM is an international content market held every October in Cannes, France, and this year, it has been held for three days since the October 17. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Radio Promotion Association operated the "Korea New Technology Convergence Content Promotion Center" to support overseas sales of 41 contents from 28 domestic companies.

Information and communication technology (ICT) convergence contents, including "Virtual Human" such as the virtual entertainer Rosie, were introduced at the Korea New-tech showcase.11.9 billion won worth of content investment and purchase consultations were held at the export consultation meeting.

An official from the Ministry of Science and ICT said, "We were able to confirm the high interest of the overseas production industry in new technology convergence contents at this event," adding, "The government will increase support to foster next-generation media contents."
