SEOUL, July 8 (Yonhap) -- The latest Marvel Studio’s movie "Thor: Love and Thunder" is rounding up the crowd for its first weekend of its premier.
According to the integrated network of movie tickets by the Korean Film Council on Friday, “Thor: Love and Thunder” which premiered on Wednesday topped the South Korean box office by attracting over 580 thousand people by Thursday.
“Top Gun: Maverick” which topped the South Korea’s box office for the past 2 weeks was pushed down to second place. According to 8 a.m. on Friday, reservation rate of “Thor: Love and Thunder” has surpassed over 56 percent whereas “Top Gun: Maverick” stayed in 25 percent.
However, number of viewers for “Thor: Love and Thunder” has gone down drastically within a day, from 382 thousand people to 196 thousand people which is nearly 50 percent decrease was shown in daily viewers.
Whereas, “Top Gun: Maverick” starring Tom Cruise continued to attract over 100 thousand people the past 2 days.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” is about Thor, played by Chis Hemsworth fighting against Gorr, played by Christian Bale who plans to decimate gods.
Director Taika Waititi who successfully produced “Thor: Ragnarok” the most popular movie of the Thor series, returned as a director for “Thor: Love and thunder” and infuse his sense of humor into it.
Director Park Chan-wook’s “Decision to leave”, “Round Up” starring Ma Dong-seok, and “The Witch: Part 2 The Other One” will continue to screen at the theater.
“Decision to leave” which premiered 2 weeks ago accumulated total of 680 thousand people. Director Park Chan-wook received “Director Award” from Festival De Cannes for his movie “Decision to Leave” in 6 years. Despite of its fame, it is struggling compare to his movie “The Handmaiden” in 2016 which attracted 4.28 million viewers in total.
