SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korean travel retail brand Lotte Duty Free has taken another step toward cementing its position as Korea’s representative duty-free shop by holding an exclusive fan meeting for the mega-hit girl group TWICE, the brand announced Sunday.

The fan meeting marked the very first large-scale event that the retail brand organized to attract foreign group tourists since the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, organized exclusively for Japanese consumers, gathered about 500 Japanese fans at the Sejong University in Seoul on Saturday.

Lotte Duty Free also dropped its very first commercial in the form of a musical film starring the members of TWICE participating in various events including a talk show.

Noh Jae-seung, the head of Lotte Duty Free’s marketing division, said, “With board lines opened and overseas travel expected to resurge in earnest this year, we are also gearing up to take the lead in attracting more worldwide tourists with various K-contents.”

The number of Japanese tourists visiting Korea in December of 2022 demonstrated a steady increment, accumulating 84,000 tourists in total. Meanwhile, the sales of Japanese customers at Lotte Duty Free also increased by 12% from Nov. to Dec.
