SEOUL, June 2 (Yonhap) -- Melon users' music preferences during their commute show that G-Dragon (GD) is especially popular.
Music platform Melon announced Monday through its "Data Lab" that G-Dragon’s songs were the most streamed during weekday commute hours—specifically at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.—from January 2 to May 15 of this year.
He was followed by band DAY6 in second place and girl group aespa in third.
G-Dragon’s Home Sweet Home was also named the most-played song during these times, with WOODZ’s Drowning in second place.
During the study period, Melon users streamed over 2.85 million different songs during those commute hours, with a total of 1.25269 billion plays.
By genre, ballad, dance, and rock/metal were the top three most-streamed. Ballad and rock/metal saw more plays in the morning, while dance was more popular in the evening.
Gentle songs by artists like Jung Eunji, Tei, and Standing Egg had over 10 percent more listeners in the morning than in the evening. In contrast, girl group songs by artists like BABYMONSTER, NewJeans, and KISS OF LIFE were more frequently streamed after work.
Melon explained, “This suggests people start their day with slower-tempo ballads or rock/metal, and unwind after work with upbeat dance tracks.”
