SEOUL, April 24 (Yonhap) -- BAIN, a member of K-pop boy group JUST B, publicly came out as gay during the group’s world tour performance in the United States.
According to the local music industry on Wednesday, BAIN made the announcement on Tuesday (local time) during a concert held in Los Angeles, saying, “As a gay man, I’m proud to be part of the LGBTQ+ community.”
While performing Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” BAIN waved a rainbow flag, a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride. He also shouted, “My queen, Lady Gaga, showed us that being different is beautiful.”
The unexpected declaration drew loud cheers and applause from the audience.
It is rare for a member of a K-pop boy group to publicly disclose their LGBTQ+ identity. Previously, Lara of HYBE’s American girl group Cat’s Eye revealed her identity using the term “Half Fruitcake,” a phrase often used to suggest LGBTQ+ identity, on a fan communication platform last month.
JUST B debuted in 2021 as a six-member boy group including BAIN, former I-LAND contestant Geonu, Siwoo, and former 1THE9 member DoYeom.
