SEOUL, May 2nd (Yonhap) -- The traditional Korean society custom of men kidnapping women, especially widows, as wives is called 'bossam.'

The term 'bossam' also known as '보쌈' in Korean refers to wrapping or covering something--in this case a woman--with a cloth.

The so-called "marriage by capture" tradition is widely observed in history, however it is considered one of the customs that illustrates the traditional male-centered oppressive society in Korea, especially in the Joseon Dynasty (1392~1910).

This type of custom was recently shown in MBN's 10th anniversary historical drama, "Bossam: Steal the Fate," starring actor Jung Il-woo and actress Kwon Yu-ri, which started off with good reviews.

According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research company, the ratings for the first episode of "Bossam: Steal the Fate," which aired the previous day, recorded 2.498%-3.132% in viewership. It is the highest record to have been achieved by the first episode of MBN's entire dramas.

The first episode of the drama starts out with the story about 'bossam'. Bau (Jung Il-woo), who has been doing everything he can to make a living with his only son, while also conducting 'bossam' for others as his jobs. However, when Bau accidentally takes Princess Soo-kyeong (Kwon Yu-ri), the daughter of Gwanghaegun, an unnecessary trouble is predicted to happen.

"Bossam: Steal the Fate" has drawn attention by choosing a concept that has not been dealt with in historical dramas. In particular, actor Jung Il-woo, who shows his professional acting skills every time, increased the expectations.

The drama had many favorable reviews for its sensuous directing and organized story, drawing attention to what kind of box office history the drama will write in the future.

Meanwhile, KBS 2TV's weekend drama "Revolutionary Sisters" recorded 22.8%-26.7%, SBS TV's Friday-Saturday drama "Taxi Driver" recorded 8.3%-15.2%, tvN's weekend drama "Vincenzo" recorded 11.9% and JTBC's Friday-Saturday drama "Under Cover" recorded 3.367%.
