SEOUL, Oct. 8 (Yonhap) -- Stray Kids became the second K-pop group in history to perform at the prestigious American Music Awards (AMA). According to their agency JYP Entertainment on the 8th, Stray Kids participated as performers at the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special, held in Los Angeles on the 6th (local time).
The American Music Awards is considered one of the top three major music award shows in the U.S., alongside the Grammy Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. Stray Kids follows BTS as only the second K-pop group to take the stage at the AMAs.
This year's event, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the AMAs, included a tribute to the history of the award show. Stray Kids delivered a performance that paid homage to the legacy of boy bands throughout the years.
They appeared alongside a video that showcased iconic boy bands like New Kids on the Block, NSYNC, and BTS, and performed their new song "Chk Chk Boom."

Stray Kids incorporated a segment of NSYNC's signature song Bye Bye Bye into their performance, adding significance to the celebration. Following the show, NSYNC shared a video on their official social media, featuring a mash-up of their original performance with Stray Kids' rendition, commenting, "It was an honor to see Stray Kids recreate the marionette choreography of Bye Bye Bye tonight."
The AMAs event featured a star-studded lineup, including Mariah Carey, Green Day, Jennifer Hudson, and Nile Rodgers, alongside Stray Kids.
Stray Kids has recently been enjoying a surge in popularity, with their mini-album ATE becoming the best-selling K-pop album of 2024 in the U.S. The group is currently on their world tour "dominATE," with upcoming performances in Melbourne, Australia, on the 19th, Sydney on the 26th, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on December 2nd.
