SEOUL, March 28 (Yonhap) -- Son Suk-gu's starring film 'Troll Factory' rose to the top of the box office charts upon its release.
According to the Integrated Computer Network for Movie Ticket Sales on the 28th, 'Troll Factory' attracted over 127,000 viewers (occupancy rate 36.7%) the day before its release, securing the top spot.
Directed by Ahn Gooc-jin, 'Troll Factory' tells the story of Sang-jin (played by Son Suk-gu), a journalist from the social department of a newspaper, who uncovers the truth behind a troll factory orchestrating online opinion manipulation.
While praised for the performances of actors including Son Suk-gu, opinions are divided regarding the clarity of the story's conclusion. The atmosphere is mixed, with CGV's Golden Egg Index reflecting a rating of only 81.0%.
'Exhuma,' directed by Jang Jae-hyun, which had held the top spot since its release on the 22nd of last month, fell to second place after a month-long run, attracting around 93,000 viewers (27.8%). The cumulative audience for this film, which entered the ten million club on the 24th, has surpassed 10,471,000 viewers.
The Hollywood blockbuster 'Godzilla vs. Kong: New Empire,' released alongside 'Troll Factory,' ranked third with around 55,000 viewers (18.2%). It was followed by 'Dune: Part 2,' starring Timothee Chalamet, with around 12,000 viewers (5.1%).
Director Kang Seung-yong's '1980' (about 6,000 viewers, 2.0%) and Ryuusuke Hamaguchi's ‘Evil Does Not Exist' (about 4,000 viewers, 1.2%), both released the day before, started at sixth and eighth place, respectively.
