SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Yonhap) -- Actors Lee Jae-won and Seo Ji-hye, who stars in Apple TV+'s first Korean-language original series "Dr. Brain," emphasized how human-like charms of each character were well melted into the science fiction mystery show.

In an online interview on Wednesday, the two actors agreed that "Dr. Brain" contains stories on each of the characters' growth despite the sci-fi thriller being based on a cerebral scientist uncovering a murder case.

While Lee plays Hong Nam-il, a fellow researcher of genius brain scientist Se-won (Lee Sun-kyun), Seo takes the role of a detective who tries to figure out the muder case on Se-won's family.

Regardless of Se-won's impassive and cold-hearted personality, Hong Nam-il is the only character who treats Se-won as a human. Although people point fingers at Se-won for always eating alone or not expressing any emotions despite his family's tragedy, Hong supports Se-won and calls him his 'older brother.'

"(Hong Nam-il) takes part in the brain research with Se-won, but his brother-like relationship with the main character is also very important, which is why I tried to carry out both parts together," Lee said. "Among characters with such strong individuality, my character delivers a feeling of universality and acts like a guide for the audience to enter the show."

Lee didn't forget to thank his co-star Lee Sun-kyun for making a comfortable filming atmosphere, saying, "I had to act out my genuine feelings of love and respect for Se-won, and Lee Sun-kyun helped me a lot to successfully shoot that part on set."

If Hong Nam-il is Se-won's internal assistant in the laboratory, Seo's character acts as Se-won's assistant in the outside world. Although detective Choi does not trust Se-won from the beginning, she starts to believe in brain connection little by little. In the first episode, Seo's character does not leave a huge impact on the viewers yet, however later helps resolve the case.

"Detective Choi is like a ray of hope for Se-won, who has nowhere to lean on," Seo explained. "While she contemplates whether to trust Se-won's words, detective Choi strives to get to the bottom of the case by following her instincts."

"At first, I approached my character with cold and hard emotions," Seo said. "Se-won, who lacks in feeling emotions, shows character growth as the show unfolds, and Choi also shows development through solving the incident. I tried to portray my character growing as much as Se-won does."

Seo said she also worked hard to manage her physical strength to pull off action sequences. The actress added that she practiced with a model gun to prepare for her scenes.

The two actors mentioned that they were given a good opportunity to meet viewers around the world by starring in Apple TV+'s original TV series.

"I believe there are a lot of people who don't even know my name yet, but it is interesting yet scary to be able to show my performance as an actress to the world," Seo said. "I felt a sense of pressure and responsibility."

"It was good to be able to work with director Kim Jee-woon, great actors, and Apple TV+," Lee added.
