SEOUL, April 16 (Yonhap) -- S.Korean filmmaker Jin Mo-young, famously known for making the documentary film "My Love, Don't Cross That River" has returned by releasing a documentary series "My Love: Six Stories of True Love" as one of Netflix original series.

Director Jin Mo-young, who presented the series on Netflix on the 13th, said in a video interview, "The fundamental purpose and reason of the series is to cheer on for many couples in the world and hope their love lasts forever."

The documentary series depicts the universality of love as six longtime couples from different countries including, Korea, the United States, Spain, Brazil, Japan and India, share their love stories in portraits filmed over the course of one year.

"When I made the movie 'My Love, Don't Cross That River,' I wanted to show it to audiences around the world," director Jin said. "I thought I could expand the movie version (through collaboration with Netflix) or make an opportunity for people to revisit the original movie again."

Regarding the new documentary series, Jin mentioned, "One of the concepts is to express the love couples feel in the present," adding, "The key idea is 'the state of being present' just like the original movie."

"A keyword I frequently use after designing this series is the phrase 'Textbook of Love'. Everyone wants to find their love partners and live a good life, but I hope this movie will give people a chance to feel the moment when they realize the way to describe their marriage life a 'happiness'."

"Personally, I think love starts when people feel sympathy or compassion," Jin said, adding, "I think it starts with people having the mindset of 'how tired will this be' or 'how hard is this going to be'."

"People can start to love, but they need to make special efforts in order to maintain and strengthen their love," director Jin Mo-young added. "It's important to express your love to your partner, and the couples in this documentary have spent their time well with each other and built trust over the years."

In regards to the recent creation of various types of families and the increased number of people declaring not to get married, director Jin said, "I think we should respect their choice. This documentary exists for people who want to live as a couple and want to refer to the lessons offered in the film."

Director Jin Mo-young also expressed his desire to expand the documentary series.

"If I were in charge, I would like to release about 20 series at the same time, however I'm not in charge (laughs). I think the purpose and value of this series is very big and I really hope that there will be a lot more stories we can share from people in different regions."
