SEOUL, April 23 (Yonhap) -- "Woman of Fire" or better known as the movie "Hwanyeo" in Korea, is the debut film of the 2021 Oscar nominee Youn Yuh-jung (74), the first Korean actress to challenge for an Academy Award, and will be re-released after 50 years.

Distributor Design Soft announced on the 23rd that it will showcase the late director Kim Ki-young's "Hwanyeo" (1971) at CGV Signature K theater in Seoul on May 1st.

"Hwanyeo" tells the story of a housekeeper (played by Youn Yuh-jung), who comes to Seoul from the countryside and gets a job at a rich family's house, while also having an abortion after becoming pregnant with the child of the owner of the house.

Youn Yuh-jung, a rookie actress in her twenties at the time, drew attention for playing the madness and obsessive housekeeper. It was an unconventional role that was not easy to choose for such a young actress.

Youn Yuh-jung won the Rookie of the Year award at the 10th Grand Bell Awards, the 8th Blue Dragon Film Award for Best Actress and the 4th Sitges International Film Festival for her performance.

Actress Youn Yuh-jung, who has been nominated for the 93rd Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for "Minari" is currently staying in the U.S. to attend the ceremony. The awards will be held on the afternoon of the 25th (KST) through the morning of the 26th.
