SEOUL, Apr. 18 (Yonhap) – The fantasy blockbuster movie “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” topped the latest box office during the first weekend of its release.
According to the data from the Korean Film Council(KOFIC) on Apr. 18, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” which attracted 337,000 people(72.4% of sales) for the past three days on the weekend(Apr. 15 to 17), ranked No. 1 on the box office.
The film, which is the third instalment of the “Fantastic Beasts” series in the "Harry Potter" series, depicts the struggles of the dark wizard Grindelwald(Mads Mikkelsen) and Hogwarts professor Dumbledore(Jude Law).
The movie reached 476,000 cumulative viewers since it was released on Apr. 13.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” which topped the box office last week, stepped down to the second place. It recorded 209,000 cumulative viewers, adding 6,700(11.8%) more audiences.
The Marvel’s anti-hero film “Morbius,” S. Korean comedy movie “Stellar,” and director Michael Bay’s action film “Ambulance” each attracted about 10,000 viewers and ranked No. 3 to No. 5.
The number of audiences, which maintained its place in the range of 300,000 since the last week of February, has increased ahead of the lift of all COVID-19 distancing rules. It is estimated that 484,000 audiences, which was increased by 40 percent from the previous week(344,000 people), visited the theaters last weekend.
