Diverse movies released in theaters with lift of COVID-19 distancing rules

SEOUL, Apr. 22 (Yonhap) – As there was a lift of all COVID-19 distancing rules, various new films have been released in the box office.

While the fantasy blockbuster movie “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” is out for maintaining the first place for two consecutive weeks, other movies of diverse genres are waiting for the audiences.

According to the data from the Korean Film Council(KOFIC) on Apr. 22, the thriller movie “Anchor,” which was released in Apr. 20, starring Chun Woo-hee started off No. 2 in the daily box office by attracting 19,000 people(22.4%) on the first day of its release and 14,000 audiences(20.7%) the next day.

The comedy action film “The Lost City,” which was unveiled on the same day, starring Sandra Bullock ranked No. 3, while “SEVENTEEN POWER OF LOVE - THE MOVIE,” which depicts the concert of K-pop boy group Seventeen, ranked No. 5.

On Apr. 21, filmmaker Hong Sang-soo’s “The Novelist's Film” and “Three,” directed by Ruslan Pak, the fourth generation of the Soviet Koreans, have been released and entered the top 10.

The live ticket sales for the Marvel’s hero blockbuster “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which is ahead of its release on May 4, was 43.2 percent, maintaining the first place with 108,000 audiences of reservation.

In terms of the latest movies in theaters, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” recorded 18.2 percent while “SEVENTEEN POWER OF LOVE - THE MOVIE” attracted 6.7 percent of viewers. Besides, the movie “Air Murder,” which deals with the humidifier disinfectant disaster and was released on Apr. 22, remained at 6.4 percent.
