S.Korean pianist Lee Hyuk to perform at 'Bastille Day Concert' in France on July 14

SEOUL March 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean pianist Lee Hyuk will be showcasing his solo performance at the concert being held in celebration of France’s National Day, “Bastille Day” under the Eifel Tower on July 14.

Lee Hyuk will be taking the stage as the closer of the first segment of the classical concert being held in celebration of “Bastille Day” around at 7 p.m. and expected to perform for about 20 minutes at the Champ de Mars.

According to Lee Hyuk’s agency on March 6 (France time), addressed “Lee Hyuk will be the first South Korean performer to perform at one of the world’s biggest classic music festival.”

The upcoming festival being co-hosted by Paris City Government, and French broadcasting service “France Televisions” and various other organizations will be broadcasted live through various media outlets.

Throughout the second half of the concert, Orchestre National De France, and Choeur De Radio France, will be collaborating with various world well known figures within classical music scene.

Participating in such epic scale of festival is one of the perks pianist Lee Hyuk, received by winning the grand prize at the “Long-Thibaud International Competition” in 2022.

Throughout the international competition, Lee Hyuk was awarded with the grand prize alongside Japanese pianist Masaya Kamei, however the festival committee contacted Lee Hyuk to offer the spot within the concert.

Pianist Lee Hyuk was the only South Korean pianist to have been nominated as the finalist of “Chopin International Piano Competition” in 2021, however he was not awarded with the grand prize. However the pianist won the grand prize at “France’s Animato International Piano Competition” on December of 2021.

Lee Hyuk who has studied in Moscow’s well known musical institute “Moscow Conservatory” had to relocate to Paris due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, is currently studying in Paris at the Ecole Normale De Musique De Paris.

The concert which the South Korean pianist will participate in is a free concert being held in front of the Eifel Tower where the grand firework will decorate the night sky of Paris at 11 p.m.

France’s National Day, “Bastille Day” celebrates the historical event “Storming of Bastille” which took place in July 14 of 1789.

Throughout the festival visitors will be able to witness military parade throughout the Champs-Elysees throughout the day, and in evening the festival ends with grand firework in front of Eifel tower.
