SEOUL, April 11 (Yonhap) -- 'Parasyte: The Grey' has emerged as the most-watched non-English series globally in its debut week on Netflix.
According to Netflix on the 10th, 'Parasyte: The Grey' recorded 6.3 million views (Views divided by viewing time) from the 1st to the 7th of this month, securing the top spot in the non-English TV series category. It is directed by animator-filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, known for directing 'Train to Busan' and series 'Hellbound',
It ranked within the top 10 in a total of 68 countries and topped the charts in eight countries including Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Bolivia.
'Parasyte: The Grey' is a spin-off based on the universe of the manga 'Parasyte', which won the Seiun Award for SF in Japan in 1996.
The series delves into the events unfolding as mysterious parasitic organisms take control of human bodies. Actor Jeon So-nee plays Jung Soo-in, a human partially taken over by Parasytes, while Seol Kang-woo, portrayed by Koo Kyo-hwan, seeks to find his disappeared brother amidst violent organizations.
Meanwhile, the romantic comedy drama 'Queen of Tears', starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, maintained its second-place position with 4.3 million views, holding steady from the previous week. This series has consistently remained in the top 10 for five consecutive weeks.
The reality entertainment show 'Physical: 100 Season 2 - Underground', which topped the charts in its debut week, dropped to fourth place but maintained its presence in the top 10 for three consecutive weeks.
