'Exhuma' to exceed 7 mln viewers

SEOUL March 8 (Yonhap) -- Director Jang Jae-hyun's film “Exhuma” is expected to surpass 7 million viewers this weekend as it continues to dominate the South Korean box office.


According to the integrated computer network of movie admissions on the 8th, “Exhuma” attracted over 160,000 viewers the previous day, accounting for 64.5% of the box office share, maintaining its position at the top for the 15th consecutive day since its release on February 22.

The cumulative number of viewers has reached over 6.766 million, and it is expected to exceed 7 million this weekend, aiming for the 8 million mark.

The occult mystery film “Exhuma” starring Choi Min-sik, Kim Go-eun, Yoo Hae-jin, and Lee Do-hyun, has received praise for its unique story combining feng shui, geomancy, and shamanistic beliefs with the painful history of the nation, along with outstanding performances by the cast. There are speculations that it could become the first film of the year to surpass 10 million viewers.

The fantasy film 'Dune: Part 2,' starring Hollywood A-lister Timothee Chalamet, ranked 2nd with over 39,000 viewers (20.2%) the previous day. The cumulative number of viewers broke the 1 million mark on Friday. 

Following them were Emma Stone's “Poor Things” (7,000 viewers, 3.2%), the documentary “The Birth of Korea” illuminating the life and politics of former President Rhee Syng-man (6,000 viewers, 2.4%), and Korean director Celine Song's “Past Lives” (6,000 viewers, 2.4%).

As of the morning of March 8, reservation rate “Exhuma,” is leading the rate with 49.7%, followed by 'Dune: Part 2' (32.6%).
