SEOUL, June 5 (Yonhap) -- Rookie girl group USPEER, launched by WM Entertainment—home to girl group Oh My Girl and boy group ONF—took their first step into the music scene, marking the company’s first new girl group in 10 years.
At their debut showcase held in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on Wednesday, USPEER confidently stated, “We want to show how music and performance can unite people around the world.”
The members expressed their ambition by saying, “We want to earn the title of ‘versatile idols.’ We also want to be known as a strong performance group,” adding, “We hope to become a source of pride and a pillar of support for our agency, WM.”
Composed of seven Korean members—Soi, Chaena, Daon, Sian, Seoyu, Roa, and Yeowon—USPEER is a team that emphasizes a sporty concept. The group’s name contains the meaning: “Together, we seek truth, understand the essence of the world, and create a better future.”
Yeowon said, “We think of ourselves as a sports team, so instead of calling someone the leader, we decided to use the term ‘captain.’ I’ve practiced taekwondo for about eight years and hold a fourth-degree black belt. I have solid athletic ability and vibrant energy,” she said with a smile.
She caught attention at the showcase by demonstrating a taekwondo kick on stage.

Standing at the starting line, the group is ready to race on the stage track with their debut single "SPEED ZONE," which uses speed as a metaphor for energy and vitality.
The single includes two tracks: the title track "ZOOM," featuring powerful rap and vocals and a catchy chorus, and the B-side "Telepathy," which delivers the message, “There’s no limit we need to fear when we’re together.”
Regarding the title track, Sian said, “The repetitive, chant-like chorus and the heart-pounding drum sound are especially striking. 'ZOOM' doesn’t refer to a camera lens but the sound of speeding ahead. It conveys our ambition to charge forward and open up a new future.”
As for their role models, USPEER named their label seniors Oh My Girl. “We want to become a beloved group with longevity like Oh My Girl,” they said. “Oh My Girl members also show their talents individually in solo music, acting, and variety shows. We also want to show many sides of ourselves, both as a group and as individuals.”
According to the group, Oh My Girl’s Yubin visited their practice room and gave them valuable advice on vocals and dance. Sian added, “Yubin sunbaenim also treated us to delicious food like samgyeopsal. Next time, we want to treat her to beef in return.”
USPEER plans to actively promote through appearances on music shows such as Mnet’s "M Countdown."
Seoyu added, “Our team’s strength is powerful performances. You’ll also get to see various content that ties into our sports-themed concept.”
