SEOUL, May 17 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday to discuss the results of Trump's recent summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Cheong Wa Dae said.

The phone talks were arranged at Seoul's request to hear about the recent U.S.-Chinese summit and lasted 30 minutes, the presidential office said.

Trump shared the outcome of his summit with Xi, and then the leaders held sincere discussions on issues related to peace on the Korean Peninsula and the smooth implementation of the joint fact sheet, the office said, referring to the countries' bilateral trade deal reached last year.

Lee congratulated Trump on his successful visit to China and said the stable management of U.S.-China relations would contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and around the world, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a press release.

The South Korean president hailed Trump and Xi's "constructive discussion" on Korean Peninsula issues and praised Trump for his proactive leadership in addressing the situation in the Middle East, while expressing hope the region would soon regain peace and stability, according to Kang.

Sunday's call came shortly after Trump returned home from a three-day trip to Beijing, where he and Xi discussed a wide range of issues, including trade and the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. Trump earlier said he and the Chinese leader had also discussed North Korea issues.

In his talks with Lee, Trump said he will continue to play a role and make contributions necessary to ensure peace and stability on the peninsula in close cooperation with Lee, according to Kang.

Lee and Trump agreed to work for the faithful implementation of the joint fact sheet, calling it a historic agreement that elevated the alliance between their countries to a higher level.

The two leaders also expressed hope for their reunion at the upcoming Group of Seven summit, scheduled to take place next month, the presidential spokesperson said.

The Lee-Trump call marked the second of its kind since the first call held on June 6, 2025, two days after Lee took office. It was also their first direct communication since their summit in the southeastern South Korean city of Gyeongju in late October.
