SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Yonhap) -- Foreign Minister Cho Hyun has met with his United Arab Emirates (UAE) counterpart to discuss bilateral ties and the situation in the Middle East, the foreign ministry said Tuesday.

Cho met with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in New York on Monday (U.S. time) on the margins of the U.N. General Assembly High-Level Week, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Cho expressed concern over the security and economic impact of the situation in the Middle East on the region and beyond, voicing hope for the restoration of peace and stability.

The foreign minister added the two countries' special strategic partnership, built on trust, continues to develop across various fields.

In response, the UAE foreign minister expressed hope for expanding bilateral cooperation in various areas, including defense, trade, healthcare and culture.
