S. Korea, Mekong River nations discuss expanding cooperation on transnational crime response

SEOUL, June 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and five Mekong River nations held a senior official-level meeting in Thailand on Friday to discuss ways to expand cooperation in tackling transnational crimes and other areas, Seoul's foreign ministry said.

Lee Dong-ki, South Korea's director-general for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Southeast Asian Affairs, met with senior officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to review the progress of ongoing cooperation projects, the ministry said.

During the meeting, Lee voiced hope to further expand cooperation with the Mekong River nations on a range of areas, such as advanced technologies and economic security.

While highly assessing South Korea's contributions to water resource management and agricultural development, the five Mekong River nations expressed hope for continued cooperation on various projects in the future.
