Presidential office expresses hope for U.S.-Iran deal, reopening of Hormuz

ROME, June 14 (Yonhap) -- The presidential office expressed hope Sunday that the United States and Iran will reach a ceasefire agreement to restore peace in the Middle East and reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.

Cheong Wa Dae voiced the hope following a recent Truth Social post by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said "The deal is scheduled to get signed" soon and that "immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is open to all."

"(We) hope that an agreement is reached between the two sides so that peace and stability will be restored in the Middle East while serving as an opportunity to quickly open the Strait of Hormuz," the office noted.

The office also said the government "supports Trump's relevant efforts and will continue to join efforts by the international community, including the U.S., to secure free and secure navigation."
