No S. Korean workers at UAE nuclear plant reported injured after drone strike

SEOUL, May 17 (Yonhap) -- No casualties among South Korean workers have been reported following a drone strike that sparked a fire at a nuclear plant in the United Arab Emirates, officials said Sunday.

"Authorities in Abu Dhabi responded to a fire incident that broke out in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra region, caused by a drone strike," Abu Dhabi's media office said in a post on social media platform X.

"No injuries were reported, and there was no impact on radiological safety levels," it added.

South Korea's foreign ministry and the state-run Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) also said no casualties involving South Korean workers at the plant have been reported.

"No casualties or damage to the Barakah plant were reported," a KEPCO official said.

The Barakah plant was built by a South Korean consortium led by KEPCO, marking the nation's first-ever overseas nuclear power plant project.
