Foreign ministry special envoy attends inauguration of Republic of Congo president

SEOUL, April 17 (Yonhap) -- Jung Hai-ung, the foreign ministry's special envoy to the Republic of Congo, has attended the inauguration ceremony of President Denis Sassou Nguesso, the foreign ministry said Friday.

The ceremony took place in Brazzaville, the capital city, on Thursday (local time), the ministry said.

Holding a meeting with Sassou Nguesso, Jung conveyed President Lee Jae Myung's congratulations on his inauguration and expressed hope for cooperative relations between the two countries.

Jung also met with Vice Foreign Minister Guy Nestor Itoua on Wednesday, where he introduced the upcoming Korea-Africa foreign ministers' meeting to be held in Seoul in June and requested the Congolese government's participation.

Jung is a retired diplomat and former ambassador to Algeria.
