Foreign ministry website briefly down after DDoS attack

SEOUL, April 17 (Yonhap) -- The foreign ministry's website briefly went down Friday following a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack before being restored, the ministry said.

After the DDoS attack on the website at around 5 p.m., the ministry took responsive measures, which led to restricted access, according to the ministry.

"In cooperation with the National Information Resources Service, the attack has been blocked and the website is operating normally," the ministry said.

A DDoS attack deploys a large number of infected devices to overwhelm a target server or website with a massive volume of traffic.
