Lee meets Mongolian PM, pledges faithful implementation of bilateral agreements

ULAANBAATAR, July 10 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung met with Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral on Friday, pledging to faithfully implement agreements reached between the two countries to expand bilateral cooperation.

The meeting was held in Ulaanbaatar on the second day of Lee's three-day state visit to Mongolia, aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation, including in critical mineral supply chains.

During a summit with Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh the previous day, the two leaders declared a "golden era" of South Korea-Mongolia relations and a shared vision for bilateral cooperation.

They also agreed to expand cooperation in the economy, trade and supply chains, including those involving critical minerals.

"I am pleased to see South Korea and Mongolia prepare for a new era," Lee told the prime minister, adding that he would be happy to work together to usher in a golden era for South Korea-Mongolia relations.

Lee also asked Uchral to thoroughly oversee the implementation of newly reached agreements between the countries, particularly those concerning economic exchanges, the defense industry and mineral cooperation.

In response, Uchral said he would instruct related ministers to ensure that the summit agreements are implemented.

The Mongolian prime minister also stressed the importance of building capacity to process Mongolian minerals and produce related products using South Korean technology.

Lee separately met with Mongolian parliamentary speaker Sandag Byambatsogt on Friday and stressed the importance of parliament's role in deepening bilateral relations, calling for its support.

"I hope the parliamentary speaker will take special interest in the development of South Korea-Mongolia relations and provide sufficient support," Lee told Byambatsogt.

Lee expressed hope that his summit with the Mongolian president will elevate bilateral ties to a new level.
