March 1st is commemorated in Korea
for the major revolt against Japanese colonialism in 1919.

It all started with a series of demonstrations that quickly caught on throughout the entire peninsula. As many as 7,000 lives were sacrificed in the name of independence that day.

These deaths were not in vain as there were major changes
eventually made in the Japanese imperial policy.

Korean observe March 1st every year in honor of those
who paved the way for Korea's independence today.
