Police to clear G-Dragon of drug suspicions

SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Yonhap) -- Police decided not to refer K-pop star G-Dragon to the prosecution over suspicions of illegal drug use as they plan to wrap up their investigation next week, officials said Thursday.

The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency said they will officially clear G-Dragon of drug suspicions when they conclude the investigation around next week.

Police launched the investigation into suspicions that the singer, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, used drugs at a bar in December last year, based on a statement from a hostess.

All drug tests conducted on Kwon, however, turned up negative, including a lab-based narcotics analysis on his hair and nail samples.

Six bar hostesses and entertainers who accompanied Kwon to the bar have also been questioned, but police reportedly secured no statements backing up drug suspicions against him.

As he publicly appeared before police for his first questioning last month, G-Dragon denied using illegal drugs, saying "I have not been involved in any drug-related crimes, and I'm here to clarify that."
