Acting president orders all-out efforts for rescue operations at Muan plane crash

SEOUL, Dec. 29 (Yonhap) -- Acting President Choi Sang-mok on Sunday ordered related government agencies to make all-out efforts for rescue operations following a deadly plane crash at an airport in the southwestern part of the country.

The acting president made the instruction to the interior and land ministries as well as firefighting and police authorities, asking related agencies to deploy all available equipment and personnel for the rescue operation, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Choi also stressed the need for extra caution to ensure the safety of firefighters during the rescue operation, his office said.

The acting president is currently on his way to the scene, the finance ministry added.

A Jeju Air flight with 181 aboard, arriving at Muan International Airport in Muan, 288 kilometers southwest of Seoul, crashed at 9:07 a.m., with 28 deaths being reported so far.
