Removal of memorial stone for forced Korean labor victims begins

Guards are on standby to block a road leading to the Gunma Prefectural Forest Park in the Japanese city of Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, on Jan. 29, 2024, where the local authorities began work to remove a memorial stone for Korean victims of Japan's wartime forced labor the previous day. The memorial stone was erected at the park in 2004 by a Japanese civic group to promote the public's understanding of the shared history from Japan's 1910-45 colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula and the friendship between the two neighbors.
