SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean authorities offloaded a net $9.6 billion in U.S. dollars during the second quarter to stabilize the foreign exchange market, central bank data showed Wednesday.
It marked the seventh consecutive quarter of net dollar selling since the fourth quarter of 2024, bringing the cumulative total to a net $54.9 billion over the period, according to data released by the Bank of Korea (BOK).
Authorities sold a net $13.6 billion under the measure in the first quarter.
The Korean won traded at an average of 1,502.1 won against the greenback over the second quarter, weakening from 1,466.7 won in the first three months of the year.
"The market stabilization measure was aimed at preventing growing volatility in the foreign exchange market and one-sided market movements," a BOK official said.
