Remains of French veterans arrive in S. Korea

A repatriation ceremony for the remains of late French U.N. veterans André Datcharry and Jacques Grisolet, who fought in the 1950-53 Korean War, is held at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, on May 26, 2026.

Datcharry, who died in March last year, voluntarily served in the war as a member of the French Battalion of the United Nations Command from March 1953 to August 1954. Grisolet, who died in November 2024, fought in the war twice -- from April 1951 to July 1952 and again from March to October 1953. The remains of the two veterans will be laid to rest at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in the southern city of Busan the following day. (Yonhap)
