SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won slightly weakened against the U.S. dollar Friday, after the Bank of Japan (BOJ) delivered an expected rate hike.

The won was quoted at 1,383.3 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., down 1.1 won from the close of the previous stock trading session.

So far this week, the won has been under pressure over the U.S. Federal Reserve's rate hike and rising oil prices following renewed military tension between the United States and Iran in the Middle East.

The Japanese yen also remained weak against the dollar despite the BOJ's rate hike that was not unanimous.

Some traders also attributed the won's recent slide to dollar short-covering ahead of the weekend and the Chuseok holiday from Sept. 24-27.

Foreigners bought a net 144.9 billion won (US$104 million) worth of local stocks during the latest regular trading session, with the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index gaining 2.66 percent to close at 6,894.23.
