SEOUL, March 10 (Yonhap) -- Prime Minister Kim Min-seok will visit New York and Switzerland later this week to promote South Korea's bid to host a U.N. hub for artificial intelligence (AI)-related projects, his office said Tuesday.

The tentatively named "U.N. AI hub" is a South Korean government initiative aimed at bringing together U.N. bodies, and South Korea's private and public sectors to produce AI-based solutions to global issues, the office said in a press release.

At Tuesday's inaugural meeting of a task force created to bring the hub to South Korea, the government officially announced the bid, while installing the prime minister as the head of a bid committee.

During his upcoming trip, Kim plans to visit the U.N. headquarters, and the headquarters of UNICEF and the United Nations Development Program in New York, as well as the offices of the World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization and the International Organization for Migration in Switzerland.

This will mark the prime minister's second visit to the United States in as many months. On his previous trip, he met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance in Washington.

The prime minister could use this week's trip to also meet senior U.S. government officials over tariffs and other pending issues between the two countries.
