SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won extended its gains against the U.S. dollar Wednesday, as local exporters continued to convert their dollar earnings into the Korean currency.

The won was quoted at 1,352.8 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., up 3.9 won from the close of the previous stock trading session.

The won's strength came in spite of rising yields on longer-dated U.S. Treasuries.

Traders have also kept a watchful eye on U.S. data on inflation and employment, which were set to be released this week and are expected to provide a clue for the Federal Reserve's monetary policy direction.

Foreigners sold a net 2.05 trillion won (US$1.53 billion) worth of local stocks during the latest regular trading session, with the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index falling 0.48 percent to close at 6,838.04.
