SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won rose slightly against the U.S. dollar Wednesday, as traders tread carefully a day before the Bank of Korea (BOK) delivers its decision on the key rate.
The won was quoted at 1,384.8 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., up 1.3 won from the close of the previous stock trading session.
The won stood at 1,383 won per dollar as the local bourse started trading and moved to 1,388.3 won at one point.
In July, the BOK raised the benchmark rate by 0.25 percentage point to 2.75 percent, marking the first rate hike in 3 1/2 years.
As the BOK has repeatedly stressed its commitment to curbing inflationary pressure, many market watchers are waiting to see if the BOK will deliver a rare back-to-back rate hike.
Foreigners sold a net 116.1 billion won (US$83.8 million) worth of local stocks during the latest trading session, with the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index climbing 0.97 percent to close at 6,808.21.
