SEOUL, Sept. 14 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won fell against the U.S. dollar Monday, as expectations were raised for the Federal Reserve to increase its key rate.

The won was quoted at 1,347.3 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., down 1.4 won from the close of the previous stock trading session.

With Brent crude futures hovering above US$100 per barrel as the U.S.-Iran military conflict escalated in the Middle East, markets were increasingly betting on the Fed's rate hike this week.

Along with inflation concerns over higher oil prices, traders also kept watch on a rate decision by the Bank of Japan later this week.

Foreigners sold a net 3.2 trillion won (US$2.3 billion) worth of local stocks during the latest trading session, while the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index slumped 3.26 percent to close at 6,684.37.
