SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won weakened slightly against the U.S. dollar Monday, as overseas investors remained net sellers of local stocks.
The won was quoted at 1,418.4 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., down 2.3 won from the close of stock trading last Friday.
The won rose to as high as 1,407.3 won in intraday trading, but pared gains as exporters appeared to buy the dollar for profit-taking.
The dollar also remained weak as last week's U.S. employment data dampened prospects for a rate hike by the Federal Reserve next month.
Foreigners sold a net 1.4 trillion won (US$990 million) worth of local stocks during the latest trading session, with the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index moving up 0.65 percent to close at 6,299.66.
