Vice FM to attend U.S.-hosted AI summit to discuss supply chain cooperation

SEOUL, June 23 (Yonhap) -- Second Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina plans to attend a U.S.-hosted summit on artificial intelligence (AI) supply chains this week to discuss ways to strengthen supply chain resilience and cooperation with like-minded countries, the foreign ministry said Tuesday.

Kim is scheduled to attend the second Pax Silica Summit set to take place in Washington on Thursday and Friday as South Korea's chief delegate, according to the ministry.

Launched by the U.S. State Department in December, the summit brings together South Korea, Japan, Singapore, the Netherlands, Britain, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Australia to discuss ways to build secure and resilient AI supply chains.

On the sidelines of the summit, Kim is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg and exchange views on broader economic cooperation between the two countries, the ministry said.

"The stable supply of critical minerals and the formation of resilient markets are crucial issues for our economic security," foreign ministry spokesperson Park Il said at a press briefing. "We will continue efforts to diversify supply chains and enhance economic security through participation in various consultative frameworks."
