(LEAD) Lee appoints new minister of Office for Government Policy Coordination

(ATTN: UPDATES with details)

SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung on Friday appointed Vice Budget Minister Lim Ki-keun as his new minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination (OPC), the presidential office said.

Lim will replace Yoon Chang-ryeol as head of the office tasked with assisting the prime minister, a Cheong Wa Dae official told a press briefing.

"We expect (Lim) to mediate the interests of different ministries in a rational manner and stably manage state affairs by drawing on his experience of coordinating complex economic policies as a top expert in the economic policy field," said Seong Ghi-hong, senior presidential secretary for public relations and communication.

Prior to his stint as vice budget minister, Lim served as chief of the Public Procurement Service and in various senior positions at the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

Yoon reportedly offered to step down before the appointment was announced.

Seong said it was his understanding that Yoon saw it fit for Prime Minister Han Seong-sook to work with a new minister of the OPC following her inauguration on July 1.
