Trump heads home after 3-day visit to China

BEIJING, May 15 (Yonhap) -- U.S. President Donald Trump left Beijing for Washington on Friday, wrapping up his three-day visit here for summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on trade, the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, as well as Taiwan and other key issues.

Trump headed home after holding his second and final round of talks with Xi earlier in the day at Zhongnanhai, the central Chinese leadership compound home to offices and residences of senior Communist Party and government officials.

The first round of summit talks was held Thursday, one day after Trump arrived here directly from Washington.

During their talks, Trump and Xi underscored their desire for cooperation and presented a united stance against Iran's nuclear ambitions, though their differences over Taiwan, a key geopolitical fault line between the two countries, appeared to remain.

Trump's trip this week marked the first visit by a U.S. president to China since 2017, when Trump visited Beijing.

Trump previously met Xi in person in Busan, South Korea, in late October on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. They are expected to meet several more times this year alone, including during Xi's anticipated reciprocal visit to Washington in September.
