Ex-lawmaker Chae Yi-bae named new chief of staff to PM

SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- Former lawmaker Chae Yi-bae was named the new chief of staff to Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, her office said Friday.

Chae, who served as a member of the National Assembly from 2016-2020, will be formally appointed as Han's top aide on Saturday.

A certified public accountant, Chae is an economic expert who has served in posts promoting fair competition, including a stint as special assistant to the prime minister for fair economy in 2021 under then Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, the office said.

"Based on his career and expertise, Chae is expected to assist Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, who has emphasized growth for all people, in supporting the recovery of people's livelihoods and achieving artificial intelligence transformation and green transformation," the office said.

Chae, 51, graduated from Korea University and completed master's degree coursework at the same university's school of law.
