Women's rights advocates rally in Seoul on International Women's Day
SEOUL, March 8 (Yonhap) -- Advocates for women's rights held a rally in downtown Seoul on Sunday calling for improvements to their rights and greater female participation in politics to mark International Women's Day.
About 200 people attended the rally hosted by the Women's Party, according to an unofficial police estimate.
The party was established in 2020 as South Korea's first-ever feminist party and has yet to win a parliamentary seat.
Participants held purple placards -- the party's symbolic color -- calling for the greater participation of women in politics and increased nominations of female candidates in elections, while also demanding the removal of politicians convicted of sexual crimes.
After the rally, they marched through downtown Seoul.
