SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on Thursday extended condolences to victims of a funicular derailment in Lisbon that killed at least 15 people and injured several others.
Cho posted the message on social media platform X after the foreign ministry confirmed that a South Korean woman was among the injured when the popular railway car in the capital of Portugal derailed and crashed on Wednesday (local time).
"I am deeply concerned to hear about the funicular accident in Portugal. I extend my heartfelt condolences to all those affected and wish for their swift recovery," Cho wrote in English. "My thoughts and prayers are with Portugal."
The ministry said it is checking whether additional South Koreans were affected and vowed to provide necessary consular assistance.
