Gov't reviews crowd safety measures for BTS concert

SEOUL, March 11 (Yonhap) -- The government has mapped out crowd safety measures for K-pop supergroup BTS' upcoming Seoul concert, the interior ministry said Wednesday, as a huge crowd is expected to gather at Gwanghwamun Square, the concert venue.

The ministry said Minister Yun Ho-jung presided over a meeting of safety-related public institutions to review the duties of each organization in implementing crowd safety measures for the BTS concert slated for March 21.

The concert is expected to attract a large crowd, including 22,000 domestic and international ticket holders.

The government plans to preemptively issue a "caution" level warning for crowd disaster to prevent accidents caused by overcrowding, the ministry noted, adding the warning will be in effect for the central Seoul wards of Jongno and Jung during the concert day.

The interior ministry and the police will form a situation management team, and the Seoul city government will operate a rapid response team to prepare for emergency situations.

The culture ministry will provide advice on concert safety, and inspect stage facilities and seats, while the health ministry will establish a disaster medical assistance team dispatch system.

The police will manage crowd flow and safety conditions, and be ready to respond to possible outbreaks of violence and terrorism.
