U.S. university to open new regular course spotlighting K-pop star G-Dragon

SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) -- A new regular course spotlighting K-pop star G-Dragon will be launched at the University of Southern California (USC) Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism next spring, the singer's agency said Friday.

Galaxy Corporation announced that the program, titled "COMM 400: Crooked Studies of K-pop -- The Case of G-Dragon," will be offered as a four-credit regular course at USC Annenberg, one of the top communication schools in the United States.

According to the agency, the class marks the first time a full-credit course dedicated entirely to a K-pop artist has been introduced at the school. It compares the new G-Dragon course to similar academic programs, such as Beyonce's at Yale University and Taylor Swift's at Harvard University, describing it as a sign of growing recognition of the global and cultural significance of K-pop.

The course will be taught by Prof. Lee Hye-jin and will explore the artistic, industrial and cultural impact of G-Dragon's work, aiming to inspire fresh academic discussion on K-pop as a transnational phenomenon, the agency added.
